What are the new rules regarding mobile phone use in cars?

From the 1st March 2017, the penalty for using a mobile phone while driving will double.


What are the penalties for being caught?

The penalty for using a mobile phone while driving has risen to £200 and 6 penalty points. In more serious cases, drivers may also be charged with careless or dangerous driving which can carry even harsher penalties.


Can I use my phone at traffic lights?

No. Any time you are in charge of your vehicle it is an offence to use a mobile phone.


Can I touch my mobile phone at all while driving?

No. As long as the engine is on, you must not touch your mobile phone.


Can I accept jobs via an app whilst driving?

No. You can’t touch your phone at all while driving, so please pull over at a safe spot before using your phone.
